Ilya Kovalchuk

Thursday, 08.05.2010 by Shimon Boyar

A seventeen year contract for a 27 year old hockey player. Not many would consider that a wise move, but the New Jersey Devils have given exactly that to forward Ilya Kovalchuk. The league says no, it violates salary cap. I say, now batting for the Boston Red Sox, shortstop Alex Rodriguez. That’s right, remember how Boston had him, to play his natural position before the league stepped in. I see a repeat. So where does the NHL want Ilya to play? Rangers anyone? Or is he still too good and not yet past his prime? Also of note, [...]

Does LeBron have to come to New York because Amar’e Stoudemire has arrived? You may think that’s kind of silly, but, think outside the box. I think he kind of has to in order to protect his [future] image.

Madison Square Garden, New York City, the Mecca of Basketball. I don’t care how many titles we haven’t won in how many years, NYC was, is, and always will be the Mecca. With Amar’e in town, we’re back on the map. Forget his knee issues, his eyeball issue, the fact that he can’t play [...]

The Future of the NBA

Free Agent Frenzy

So, here we are, after one of the best NBA Finals series in quite some time we are set to embark on one of the most interesting Free Agency periods that any sport has ever seen. I am a rumor nerd, if a top executive has a dream about making a trade, I want to know about it, I follow all the main sports religiously and I can’t remember a time in any sport where two of the top five players (James and Wade) in the entire league were Free Agents in the same year. In [...]

Boo Freakin Hoo

Game seven. The second quarter just started. I’m rooting for the celtics. Thank goodness the green guys showed up to play. HOWEVER, I must say that the Lakers are far superior on the handsome man meter.

Should we start with Jordan Farmar? #1. He’s number one in my book. He’s not an all-star yet, but he’s young…and Jewish…only one of two in the NBA. I like it.

Ron Artest. He gets a little foul happy. Aggressive and handsome. I think he’s keeping his hands to himself a little more than usual tonight. More minutes equal [...]

The Art of the Floppitty Flop

Every player does it. Every good player does it a lot. I am a little biased here, but I believe they all learned it from Paul Pierce, the master floppitty flopper. Where the heck did it come from? I decided to investigate further, and question how and why this has become one of the most important tactics, if not one of the most useful strategies in the game.

I start by saying, this is the smart player playing his sport in a very salesy manner. No, he’s not selling himself by outhustling every other player on the floor and doing [...]

Celtics!

Celtics!

I’m exercising a woman’s right to change to her mind. I’ve stated in a  previous post that I prefer watching baseball boys to basketball boys. Although I stand by the statement still, a recent stab to the heart has opened my eyes. The seven foot man is no longer as intimidating.

Game four. Celtics vs Lakers. Word on the street, Phil Jackson has never won a championship after losing game two. AND the team that wins game three when the series is 1-1 is 10-0. Sooo… What goes on with the battle of the statistics? Bottom line, Celtics must win.

I’m [...]

10. Six feet tall men are less intimidating than seven foot ones.

9. Tighter pants = illusion of tighter behinds. Enough said.

8. The number of players participating at any given time = greater chance of hubby material

7. Sliding into bases. Baseball boys aren’t afraid to get a little dirty.

6. Making average Joe’s ::cough:: ::cough:: Joe Mauer, look pretty damn good.

5. The view behind home plate. Thank you Jorge Posada.

4. Baseball hats make everyone more handsome. Bonus: Goodbye bad hair days.

3. The camera’s looove to capture the “I’m squinting my eyes sexily because I’m deeply concentrated [...]

Vince Young

Vince Young

Vince Young made the news by firing his agent since entering the league, Major Adams. Immediately after kicking him to the curb like a nasty one night stand, Young found comfort in the arms of Tom Condon of CAA. Condon is the same agent as Peyton and Eli Manning, as well as LaDanian Tomlinson-As you can see the resemblance between, elite NFL players and well, a psycho. Young said that the agent switch was not because he wants a new contract with Tennessee, but so he can feel [...]

Montreal in the Finals

Tuesday, 05.18.2010 by Shimon Boyar

Okay, so Montreal now has a legitimate shot at the finals. They just have to outlast Boston, which I feel is a realistic possibility. After the elite eight of the NHL were a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and an 8, we now have a situation where three of the four semi-finalists are (or in Boston’s case will be) members of the original six, there is reason to consider what expansion is. As a traditionalist and a fan of the original six, I am looking forward to this year’s cup (for [...]

2010 Defensive Rookie of the Year?

While playing and starting in all 16 games of his Rookie Season, Brian Cushing gathered 133 combined tackles, 4 sacks, 4 interceptions, and a safety. It was with that yearlong performance that got him declared the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year by nabbing a whopping 39 out of 50 possible votes, with Buffalo Bills Safety, Jairus Byrd, coming in a close second with 6 votes. However, things have changed since his declared ROTY in February. Last week the sports fans were notified of Cushing being found to have violated the NFL’s [...]
